Is being able to draw a must? I'm trying out painting as a hobby to take a break from the computer once in awhile, and though my paintings are on par with a child's, I know I can eventually be better. I don't want to be a professional, but it'd be nice to eventually be able to make realistic paintings.

I'm new to painting period, I've only started by painting 5 inch wooden easels that I can buy at Walmart; I had bought pretty decent paintbrushes (so I thought) at Walmart, then I saw this video and ordered the paintbrushes you recommend (the 15 pack) and they are SO MUCH NICER! Right now I'm only using the Apple Barrel Acrylic Paints and the easels have turned out pretty nice!

So your tree is not painted on bare wood . You put a wash on it first. I want to paint some thing on bare wood and want to know what kind of prep I have to do to the wood first. Every tutorial I look at primes the wood. I don’t want painted wood. I plan on painting a tree on a piece of black walnut. Do you know how to prepare the wood without priming it?
